Introduction
About Team Together Oman
Learn Together Second Together / Team Together / Team Together Oman is an engaging and adaptable English course that covers both Primary and Secondary schools. Students are challenged to communicate creatively in authentic contexts, think critically, and work together to get results. Team Together Oman also caters for pupils from Preparatory and other schools to sit exams in English, including PET Young Learners and Cambridge English Qualifications. One exam taken standard from level A1 to B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
For students
Throughout their Primary and Preparatory education, pupils and students are on a transitional period between childhood and adolescence. This well-developing stage of their intellectual and child’s development allows Team Together Oman to allow collaborative engagement with others and the ability to develop content and language which is best prepared and designed for their next steps. This period, the language content and academic skills, which is best designed to create an enjoyable and engaging environment for choice of the new academic path and encouraging exploration of new information which is purposeful.
Team Together Oman has been designed to cover all academic content which is essential for effective learning. All formal and school books and English are complemented with the Class Book and Activity Book and additional tools, which is designed to give teachers and students clearer options to create pupils’ and students’ content.
Team Together Oman has been created using tried and tested classroom techniques to help English language pupils and students to become confident, competent communicators. The design of the package will enable pupils and students to work together and collaborate in order to achieve goals, developing problem-solving skills and knowledge of the world around them. Team Together Oman builds student confidence in both the English language and in other skills needed for the 21st century.
Team Together Oman provides teachers with clear, practical methodology notes and resources for teaching English and provides each student with ample opportunities to practise.
Team Together Oman has an international dedicated support platform for online learning (School Portal), which provides teachers with interactive presentation tools, digital practice and monitoring for assigning activities, projects, games and modifying tasks adapting each student’s needs. Course features
Vocabulary
Each unit starts with an eye-catching visual presentation of the target vocabulary, which helps students’ attention right from the start. The visual presentation serves a variety of purposes:
- to present new vocabulary in context,
- to offer practice opportunities with vocabulary,
- to stimulate personalisation,
- to provide preparation tasks as well as extended texts.
Grammar
Grammar structures are taught in a clear, scaffolded, and carefully-staged way to support understanding. The Activity Book reinforces what has been presented in the Class Book. Each new structure is introduced in a clear presentation box and explained through a short text or dialogue.
Skills
Vocabulary practice is available in combination with listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
The integration of the four skills means that the new content from the Class Book and the content from the Activity Book is consolidated.
Classroom language
Classroom language is revised in every lesson & focus on phrases to be used in interaction. Functional focus and forms help students to consolidate structures and learn new ones.
Culture
Lessons on different cultural topics in each unit provide students with opportunities to learn about culture and values, and to compare them with their own.

Skills
All four skills are practised throughout Grade 7 of Team Together Oman, with a dedicated listening section in each unit and a long comprehension in lessons 5–6 of each unit. Special focus has been placed on reading and writing. The Book Club section focuses on different genres and critical students to observe familiar texts from their classmates and develop skills.
In the language input, students are acquainted with different genres of writing, such as reports, emails, diaries and fact files. Skills scaffolding is woven throughout each unit, with scaffolded writing tasks at the back of the Activity Book.
The speaking skill is practised through a variety of activities:
- Most lessons end with a Communicate activity where students can put the new language into practice.
- Projects and cross-curricular pages often give students a chance to work together on writing tasks in a fun and motivating way to get students to speak in a final controlled manner.
Lesson 7, English in action, is dedicated to teaching functional language, which is the language students need to express themselves in real-life situations. The teachers can use the communicative task to help students recycle and expand vocabulary that has been introduced in the unit or through class projects.
Suggestions on how to assess listening and speaking tasks are included in the Teacher’s Book to help students check their own progress. Each unit also has a Think like a scientist task to help develop critical thinking.
Culture
The Culture sections in Team Together Oman are used to help students learn about other cultures as well as looking at their own.
Each unit contains a Culture section that can be used as a springboard for further discussion and projects. The language is graded to be appropriate for the level of the students.
The Culture sections introduce international CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) topics. This includes a Language focus box that introduces the CLIL language. CLIL topics have been introduced across Team Together Oman from Grade 4 to Grade 9. This means that students will become increasingly familiar with using English in cross-curricular ways and gain a deeper insight of global, Social Studies and Science issues in an integrated manner.
Future skills
Team Together Oman provides a lot of opportunities for students to develop important future skills and support the Sultanate of Oman’s Vision 2040 goals. Students are given practice in critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and communication, as well as digital and media literacy.
In the graded readers, one student can choose a role such as: actor, director and so on, and perform a play in the classroom. These act-outs and other projects help build the learners’ communication skills.
The CLIL and cross-curricular activities also give students the chance to improve their literacy skills and broaden their horizons in preparation for Cambridge English Qualifications and an international world.
Critical thinking, Creativity, Communication, Collaboration
One of the features of Team Together Oman is the focus on helping students become independent learners. Students need to find out more than just vocabulary and grammar; they need to use research skills and thinking skills. Many of the activities have been designed to help students apply their own knowledge and to extend their ability to learn independently.
Social and cultural awareness
Social and cultural awareness is covered in each unit to help students understand more about Omani culture and the world around them.
Critical and digital literacy
Critical and digital literacy is in the project work section, where students use internet-based resources and present information.
Literacy, Numeracy, Scientific Literacy
These are cross-curricular skills integrated throughout the syllabus. They help prepare students for the Cambridge English Qualifications and also support the Sultanate’s Vision 2040 goals.
Support for online and digital classes
Team Together Oman supports blended and online learning through the digital school platform. The platform has Photocopiable resources such as worksheets, tests and projects. The teacher can assign tasks online, track the students’ progress and use interactive resources in class. Audio and video files are also available for listening and speaking practice.

Course components
Support for deaf and hard of hearing students
Team Together Oman provides support for deaf and hard of hearing students in every unit. Some general guidelines for teaching English to these students include:
- Every deaf/hard of hearing person has different needs, preferences and ways of learning. For example, some students might need sign language; others might just need speech training. It is good to establish this at the beginning of the year.
- Concentration fatigue can be an issue for deaf or hard of hearing students. Keep instructions short and simple and break class time into shorter, more manageable chunks.
- Regularly check that deaf/hard of hearing students have understood class information, and allow them time and space to ask for clarification.
- Deaf and hard of hearing students at the front of the classroom can hear better. This might need to be handled sensitively, so as not to single students out. Having a clear view of the teacher when not standing in front is also important.
- Sharing the lesson objectives and outlining the structure of the lesson at the beginning helps the deaf or hard of hearing students to follow what is happening. Visual aids and written instructions on the board can help throughout the lesson and the teacher can regularly point to these to indicate where they are in the lesson. This gives the students context.
- As a general rule, all teaching should be given at a natural pace. The benefits for all students are accuracy and good pronunciation. This is especially important for deaf or hard of hearing students.
- It can be helpful for teachers to create a ‘Word Wall’ before the lesson, which includes key vocabulary and pictures.
- Teachers should face the class to provide visual cues and not stand with their backs to students when speaking.
- Support learning with facial expressions, body language, realia and visuals.

Graded readers

Graded readers
There are two graded readers after each unit of the Class Book. These controlled graded language, vocabulary and themes covered in the preceding units with extra comprehension exercises at the back of each one to check understanding.
Teacher’s Book
The Teacher’s Book provides step-by-step lesson plans covering all the course material. Each lesson plan is clearly structured into stages:
- Starting the lesson
- Presenting new language
- Practice activities
- Additional ideas for extension and future skills activities
It also contains suggestions for homework, ideas for further practice and extension, and practical classroom management tips.
Class Audio
The Class Audio MP3s have all the recordings for the class, including listening, dialogues and stories. These can be used alongside the Class Book and Activity Book. All audio is also available to be found online.
Flashcards and Word Cards
The Flashcards and Word Cards present the vocabulary from each unit. They help students learn, remember, practice and consolidate vocabulary. Ideas for their use can be found in the Teacher’s Book and the Games bank, which contains extra games and activities.
Posters
The Posters designed for Team Together Oman are a great visual aid for presenting and consolidating vocabulary. The level-appropriate posters provide a lot of opportunities for revision and speaking practice.
Practice sheets
Unique examples of each, the teacher is able to photocopy and use in class or as homework. Practice sheets give extra controlled vocabulary, grammar and writing practice.
